Hopscotch Design 2017 attendees: Everything you need to know

Dear 2017 Hopscotchers,

Below are logistical details and some common questions to help you prepare for your adventure.

Where should I park?

There are multiple parking decks located near the Raleigh Convention Center which is the starting point of the Design Festival on both Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8.

We recommend:

Performing Arts Deck: 128 W South St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Cabarrus Street Deck: 216 W Cabarrus St, Raleigh, NC 27601

 How do I check-in?

After you’ve parked, you’ll enter the Raleigh Convention Center (we suggest the entrance off S. Salisbury Street) and follow signs to Wristband City located on the Mezzanine level this year.

You’ll see signage for the Design Festival Check-in once you’re in Wristband City.

General Festival Admission

Please bring your printed or digital ticket to scan and exchange for a Hopscotch Design Festival badge, swag bag, and 2017 Festival Guide.

Speakers, Sponsors, and Partners

Follow signage for Speaker and Sponsor Check-in and you’ll check-in using your name.

Design Festival check-in hours at Wristband City:

Thursday, September 7  |  8:30am-4:30pm
Friday, September 8  |  8:30am-12:30pm

*Design Festival badge is needed for access to all Design Festival events*

What’s happening at the Welcome Party?

1. Coffee!
We’ll have coffee for festival attendees after check-in so you can wake-up and get energized. It will be located outside Ballroom C on the third floor.

2. Be a part of a crowd-sourced animation powered by DASH called Make Moves
The Make Moves installation (located in Wristband City) gives attendees a chance to contribute to an animation in real-time alongside their creative counterparts. Each frame has been printed out and it’s up to Hopscotch Design attendees to choose the creative direction. Follow the instructions on your frame to make your mark!

Step 1) – Request a frame
Step 2) – Color the image
Step 3) – Upload your frame
Step 4) – Watch it live

3. Get some limited edition 2017 Hopscotch Design Festival Merch

2017 Hopscotch Design Posters

We collaborated with four local artists to design limited edition screen printed posters (thanks SUPERGRAPHIC) to commemorate this year’s Design Festival. Posters are $20 and there are 50 prints of each. Proceeds go back to the artists.
(Pay with credit card or cash).

2017 Hopscotch Design Festival T-shirts
There are only 100 of these! We’ll be selling them for $20.

4. Bring a can!

The 2017 Hopscotch Music food drive features Raleigh artist Paul Friedrich who’ll have a life-sized Onion Head Monster and other characters on-site in Wristband City.

Bring a nonperishable food item for the can sculpture and art installation and you’ll get $5 off Music festival apparel and a chance to win VIP passes to Music for next year.

All donations go to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle for school pantries and BackPack Buddies.  Raleigh-based, not-for-profit, Coastal Federal Credit Union is making all of this possible.

How does lunch work? What about the round tables?

Lunch is on your own from 11:30am-1:00pm both days. There are a lot of great restaurant options in Downtown Raleigh. Check out visitRaleigh’s restaurant directory.

We’ve planned a series of informal round table discussions that will run from 11:30am-12:15pm. Our round tables are designed to be more intimate connection points and have a limited capacity. You can check online to see capacity for each one.

Spots will be given on a first come, first serve basis and require a Hopscotch Design Festival badge for entry. We suggest grabbing lunch on your own before or after the discussion.

If you’re hoping to do both lunch and a round table, here are a few ‘grab and go’ recommendations near the round table venues:

Near Raleigh Convention Center in City Plaza:

Happy & Hale
B Good
Living Kitchen
Jimmy Johns

Near Imurj:

Berkeley Cafe
Whiskey Kitchen
