Hopscotch Design Festival takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina — one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Festival attendees experience the buzzing city through a new lense and soak up the start of perfect fall weather.
We welcomed a record crowd in 2016 with creative minds and designers attending from 10 different states and over 25 different disciplines.

Part of the festival experience is hopping between downtown venues. One of our favorite venues is the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) in Raleigh’s Warehouse District with its vibrant yellow signage and distinctive roof line.
Raleigh Denim Workshop helped to design a limited edition denim bag for festival attendees. The bags were hand sewn and screen-printed.
Speakers joined each other on stage to shape a unique dialogue around their shared ideas and differing perspectives.
Virtual Reality Demonstration, Design Thinking with IBM, Design with Discourse, and In the Studio with XPlane. 2016 featured some dynamic hands-on experiences.
We collaborated with 4 local chefs to create some tasty afternoon snacks for attendees. Bida Manda prepared a fresh papaya salad inspired by the “Design for Play” talk series. Snackers shook the salad in the box to mix the flavors and celebrate the playful nature of this traditional Laotian dish. Cafe Lucarne, Boulted Bread, and Centro shared some delicious offerings too.
Hey Monkey! Studios set up live screen printing on Friday afternoon. Attendees screen printed their own Hopscotch Design poster. Wrist muscles were strengthened and beautiful posters created.
We ended the festival with a street party and Ink Wars competition featuring 10 local illustrators. Each artist had 60 minutes to imagine the future on a 4 ft. x 8 ft. canvas.
