Matt is the Chief Instigator behind Walk [Your City], an emerging civic platform focused on helping cities use online tech to boost offline mobility. Walk [Your City] grew out of Walk Raleigh, a catalytic guerrilla wayfinding project that spread to 100+ communities around the globe over the past two years, and was included in the 13th Venice Biennale. He holds a dual masters degree from UNC Chapel Hill and NC State in City & Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture. He has successfully funded two Kickstarter projects, raising a total of $48K from 1,500 backers, ultimately helping him start both his current businesses. Additionally, Matt’s work has received numerous accolades and been featured by BBC News, TED.com, The Atlantic, Bloomberg, NPR, and Wired, and is part of NextCity.org’s "Vanguard", a “40 Under 40” class of new urban leaders.
Prior to grad school, Matt worked as a bank teller, waiter, bartender, loan officer and wrangler on a dude ranch in Wyoming. He attributes his time living in Wyoming, Richmond, Washington DC, Hartford, and Copenhagen as greatly influencing his work and life.
